Senate District 51 is hosting a forum for the nine Republican candidates for governor. It's going to be an exciting event. It will take place on Tuesday, October 20, in Mounds View. Doors open at 6pm. There will be a dessert reception and a cash bar available.

Our forum will feature an exciting, interactive format: all participants will be seated in small groups. Candidates will speak one at a time to each group for 10 minutes. After their 10 minutes are up, the candidates will all rotate between each of the groups. The forum will not end until each group has met each candidate. This gives you the opportunity to meet all of the candidates in a small group setting that is moderated and positive. After the forum, there will be an informal meet-and-greet.

This letter is a thing of beauty (even if the language is a bit rough)..
You definitely feel the guy's pain! An actual letter to the passport
office...

Dear sirs,

I'm in the process of renewing my passport, and still cannot believe this.
How is it that Radio Shack has my address and telephone number and knows
that I bought a cable t.v. from them back in 1987, and yet, the Federal
Government is still asking me where I was born and on what date.

For Christ sakes, do you guys do this by hand? My birth date you have on my
social security card, and it is on all the income tax forms I've filed for
the past 30 years. It is on my health insurance card, my driver's license,
on the last eight damn passports I've had, on all those stupid customs
declaration forms I've had to fill out before being allowed off the plane
over the last 30 years, and all those insufferable census forms that are
done at election times.

Would somebody please take note, once and for all, that my mother's name is
Maryanne, my father's name is Robert and I'd be absolutely astounded if that
ever changed between now and when I die!!!!!!

I apologize, I'm really pissed off this morning. Between you an' me, I've
had enough of this bullshit! You send the application to my house, then you
ask me for my friggin' address.

What is going on? You have a gang of Neanderthal assholes workin' there!
Look at my darn picture. Do I look like Bin Laden? I don't want to dig up
Yasser Arafat, for shit sakes. I just want to go and park my ass on a sandy
beach.

And would someone please tell me, why would you give a shit whether I plan
on visiting a farm in the next 15 days? If I ever got the urge to do
something weird to a chicken or a goat, believe you me, I'd sure as hell not
want to tell anyone!

Well, I have to go now, 'cause I have to go to the other end of the city and
get another friggin' copy of my birth certificate, to the tune of $60. Would
it be so complicated to have all the services in the same spot to assist in
the issuance of a new passport the same day?? Nooooo, that'd be too dang
easy and maybe makes sense. You'd rather have us running all over the
friggin' place like chickens with our heads cut off, then find some a-hole
to confirm that it's really me on the dang picture - you know,the one where
we're not allowed to smile?! (bureaucratic friggin' morons) Hey, you know
why we can't smile? We're totally pissed off!

.......I have served in the military for something over 30 years and have

Remembering What We Are Up Against
and Why We Must – and Will – Prevail

Dear America, (50ablog moderator inserted "America")

I don’t believe I’ve ever written a letter quite like this to you before. Indeed, it is difficult to write this without tears welling up in my eyes.

It started as a rainy Friday morning in late August. I was flying from my presentation in Springfield, Missouri, to my next destination connecting through Atlanta. Little did I know that what I was about to experience that day was going to shake me to the depth of my soul, inflame my passion for our country (I didn't think it was possible to be more passionate) and remind me why ACT! for America is so important to our security and the future of America.

I looked out my window at gloomy Atlanta as the plane took off, closed my eyes and pictured home and my loving family meeting me at the airport with open arms, smiles and kisses, waiting to whisk me off to Outback Steak House for dinner as planned.

It was a quiet, uneventful flight. No beverage service. No announcements from the captain — until we landed at our final destination:

"Welcome to "......." . Ladies and Gentleman we have a special request to ask of you. We are carrying on this plane today a fallen soldier brought home from Afghanistan. His body is accompanied by Sgt. "......". Please kindly allow Sgt. "...." to deplane first so he can do his job in escorting the body below. We will leave the seat belt sign on until the body has been taken off the plane. Then when the seat belt sign is turned off, you can deplane."

The plane continued slowly down the runway as the captain’s shocking announcement reverberated among the passengers. As we taxied closer to our gate, tears began to flow as we saw a police car, a military hearse, and a team of Marines standing in formation waiting to carry the body.

And the saddest scene of all — his family, wife and children, all lined up against the wall waiting for him.

Burning tears were flowing down my face as my heart sank into utter pain and agony at such a sight. We always hear about this on the news and feel sad but to experience it in person is completely different.

We pulled up to our gate and Sgt. "...." stood up in all his gloriously decorated uniform, opened up the overhead compartment carrying a folded American flag and a back pack, and started walking out of the plane amid the clapping and tears of all of us on board.

No one in the plane even touched their cell phone. People were transfixed, staring out the window, sharing our respect and sorrow. At that moment we were not Democrats, Republicans or Independents. We were Americans soberly watching one of our own come home in a coffin draped with an American flag.

As they removed the body from the plane, two men holding his wife started walking towards the plane as the wife covered her face and began sobbing. She was followed by her children. The Marines walked in formation and carried his body to the hearse.

We started getting out of our seats and deplaning without a word from anyone except the sounds of crying coming from different people looking out the window as they walked out of the plane.

As I entered the airport, people were standing in lines and rows facing the window watching all this.

Some men were saluting the body. We all stood next to each other, honoring this soldier until his body was finally in the hearse and he was driven off the tarmac.

It was the most sobering, heartbreaking, and patriotic scene. As I cried for the following few hours sitting with my family at home eating Chinese take-out for dinner (I just wasn’t up to going out for dinner), I was reminded of why we need to continually remind Americans that we are at war.

Our men and women are fighting and dying overseas to protect America from an enemy who is not only fighting us across the globe but also advancing here at home.

Just because we have not been successfully attacked at home doesn't mean our enemy has forgotten about us. Their tactics have become more sophisticated. They not only wish to attack us militarily, they are moving at full speed in the advance of their cultural Jihad invading America.

Islamic foot-washing basins in airports; Shariah finance being introduced by American banks; college campuses designating Islamic prayer rooms for Muslims only; Islamic compounds practicing Shariah law springing up across America; public schools using our tax dollars to indoctrinate American students into Islam; demands by Muslim parents that their children be provided private prayer rooms in their public schools; Muslim workers demanding special workplace accommodations no other religious person would ask for; and the list goes on.

As history demonstrates, only organized resistance will stop this. Unopposed by organized resistance, the advance of cultural Jihad in Europe has proceeded to the point that many think a full-blown “Eurabia” is inevitable and irreversible.

And even if we win the war against Islamic terrorism, but lose the struggle against cultural Jihad here at home, we may protect our safety but lose our liberties and our way of life. I just don’t believe this young man who fell on the field of battle would consider that a victory.

“Freedom” is not just freedom from the physical harm our Islamist enemies want to inflict on us. It is freedom from the tyranny and oppression of shariah Islamic law and the supremacist political ideology our enemies are determined to impose upon us.

So, just as that soldier was on the front lines of this war overseas, we are on the “front lines” here at home. That soldier was part of the “organized resistance” in Afghanistan. We are part of the “organized resistance” here in America.

We cannot afford to fail in our military missions overseas. Failure would embolden and empower Islamists throughout the world.

We also cannot afford to fail here at home.

This is why I appeal to you to take heart and help me continue building ACT! for America. We are the only nationwide organized resistance to this threat. As I said, we are the front lines here at home.

Our families, our communities and our nation are depending on us, even though many do not yet realize it.

For instance, two years ago ACT helped pass the bill in Congress that protects every citizen from lawsuits when they report suspicious activity in public places.

How many Americans know this happened? Very few. Yet they are now protected from lawsuits, which means America is safer as a result.

I know there are other issues right now, such as health care and the economy, that are dominating the attention of the American people. And I understand why that is.

But for those of us, you and me, who grasp the seriousness of the threat of radical Islam, we must continue to do everything we can to make sure that the reason 9/11 occurred is not forgotten. That the reason we are fighting in Afghanistan is not forgotten.

We must continue to push forward, to inform, organize, and ring the alarm bells, even when it feels like a lot of people aren’t paying attention right now or don’t seem to “get it.”

Because there are many good Americans out there ready to respond to our message, if we can only get it to them.

Because we are the modern “Paul Revere's,” the messengers who are warning America even when a lot of America is preoccupied with other matters. It is estimated that over 2/3 of the colonists either were loyal to Britain or were indifferent to the political struggles the colonies were experiencing in 1776.

Yet, through the leadership and sacrifice of the remaining colonists, independence was declared and Britain was defeated.

How I wish I could be standing in your presence this very moment, to grasp your hands, look into your eyes, and say “be encouraged!”

We will win this struggle against radical Islam. It won’t be tomorrow, or next year, but we will, in time, prevail — so long as good, patriotic Americans like you do not lose hope and keep taking action.

We are winning victories, and we will continue to win more – and bigger – victories, so long as good, patriotic Americans like you do not lose hope and keep taking action.

Let’s remember how far we have come together. In less than two years we have built the largest grassroots organization in America dedicated to combating the threat of radical Islam, with 62,000 members and 315 local chapters.

Be encouraged!

I want to close with this. Last week, when Guy Rodgers and I were at the EMP conference in Niagara, NY, the president of a national security organization sat down with us and thanked us profusely for what ACT! for America is doing and has already accomplished.

I wish you could have seen his face and heard his words. This is a man who has served at high levels of government and been around Washington politics for decades.

His message to us – and ultimately to you – was that ACT! for America is KEY to all our efforts to defeat radical Islam. He has watched us grow, witnessed our activism, and rejoiced for our victories.

So I’ll say it again. Be encouraged!

On Friday at 1:00PM EDT, Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius and other public officials will host a webcast to talk about health care reform. This is an important opportunity to ask Secretary Sebelius and her colleagues serious questions about the negative impact of a government-run plan.

The public is invited to submit questions to this forum, which is entitled, "Health Insurance Reform - What's in it For You?" Questions can be mailed to hhsstudio@hhs.gov and submitted via Twitter by using the "hashtag," or reference code, #HCRQ.

This is a great opportunity to ask the tough questions. Several sample questions you might consider are listed below. Please phrase them in your own words so that they reflect your personal thinking on the issues.
Sample questions for tomorrow's webcast:

    * How does the current legislation bring down healthcare costs while at the same time promising no limits on care and artificially-capped premiums? It doesn't add up, and the Congressional Budget Office agrees.
    * How is it possible for government-run health care to be sustainably funded and not reliant on taxpayer money when it's a proven fact that other - and smaller-scale - government-run health programs like Medicare and Medicaid soon will run out of cash?

Make no mistake, the powers-that-be in Washington did not want you to know what is in this horrendous Obamanation that they are calling "health care reform."

In fact, some Democrats - led by Speaker Pelosi -- are trying to suppress the truth about ObamaCare ... prevent We the People from knowing the facts about this legislation.

According to Roll Call:

"Democrats are preventing Republican House Members from sending their constituents a mailing that is critical of the majority's health care reform plan, blocking the mailing by alleging that it is inaccurate."

"House Republicans are crying foul and claiming that the Democrats are using their majority to prevent GOP Members from communicating with their constituents.

"'Hiding the truth about wildly unpopular policies is a Democrat specialty,' said one GOP aide. 'I'd like to see the flow chart on how Speaker [Nancy] Pelosi plans on implementing the open and transparent government she keeps promising everyone.'"

Last month, five governors made the "mistake" of using the word "rationing" in discussing proposed health care legislation making its way through Congress.

Response from the Administration was quick. Don't use that term. We don't want the American people to think about having to cut back on procedures now available to them.

But despite these efforts, the truth is getting out. People are coming to know that ObamaCare is rationed care... long waiting lines for government-approved treatments dictated by bureaucrats in Washington.

If you think your family's health care decisions should be made between you and your doctor rather than a morass of bureaucrats, we must kill ObamaCare once and for all.

If we let them sneak it past us, there will be no going back. "

11. Announced a termination of the space defense system the day after
the North Koreans launched an ICBM.

directors, released information on intelligence gathering.
13. Accepted without public comment the fact that five of his cabinet
members cheated on their taxes and two others withdrew after they
couldn't take the heat.
14. Appointed a Homeland Security Chief who quickly identified as
"dangers to the nation", groups including veterans of the military, and
opponents to abortion on demand, and who ordered that the word
"terrorism" no longer be used but instead referred to such acts as "man
made disasters".
15. Circled the globe so he could openly apologize for America's
greatness.
16. Told the Mexican President that the violence in their country was because of us.
17. Politicized the census by moving it into the White House from its
Department of Commerce origins.
18. Appointed as Attorney General the man who or chestrated the forced
removal and expulsion from America to Cuba of a nine-year old whose
mother died trying to bring him to a life of freedom in theUnited States.
19. Salutes as heroes three Navy SEALS who took down three terrorists
who threatened one American life and the next day announces members
of the Bush administration will likely stand trial for "torturing" a terrorist who
had played a part in killing 3000 Americans by pouring water up their nose.
20. Air Force One over New York City.
21. Sent his National Defense Advisor to Europe to assure Europe that
the US will no longer treat Israel in a special manner and they might be
on their own with the Muslims.
22. Began the process of nationalizing the Auto Industry and the
Insurance industry.
23. Announced that for intents and purposes the Health Insurance
Industry will be nationalized.

Islamic nonprofit paid for Rep. Ellison's pilgrimage to Mecca

WASHINGTON - Days after his return from an unannounced pilgrimage to the Islamic holy site of Mecca, U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison talked about it as a transformational personal experience, saying "I didn't want to turn it into a politics thing."

Nearly eight months later, the Minneapolis DFLer faces a House Ethics Committee review of his decision to keep the trip's costs under wraps -- even though it was paid for by a local Islamic nonprofit and typically would be reported as a gift to a public official.

Asked about the trip Tuesday, Ellison said that he is "not privy to the internal workings of the organization" that covered his costs, and that he complied with all House Ethics panel disclosure requirements. "Why should I waive a right that's accorded me under the rules?" he said.

Tax records show the group that paid Ellison's expenses, the Muslim American Society of Minnesota, received nearly $900,000 in taxpayer money in 2006 and 2007 from a rental arrangement for Tarek ibn Ziyad Academy (TiZA), an Inver Grove Heights charter school.

The man who accompanied Ellison to Mecca, Asad Zaman, is executive director of the TiZA school, a political contributor of Ellison's and was president of the Muslim American Society until August, when the Mecca trip was planned.

TiZA has been sued by the American Civil Liberties Union and probed by state officials for allegedly promoting Islam, which would violate the church and state separation required of public schools -- including charter schools.

The school received state funding to pay rent to the Muslim American Society Property Holding Corp., a nonprofit spinoff of the Muslim American Society that owned the building. The corporation then turned over $879,000 to the Muslim society as a grant.

Those close connections have opened Ellison to questions about the nature of the trip. Ellison on Tuesday called it "a private trip," adding that he had told the ethics committee of the trip beforehand and received its approval. A spokesman for the school says no public money was used for the trip, or Hajj, which Ellison took as a once-in-a-lifetime fulfillment of his religious duty as a practicing Muslim. The 16-day pilgrimage is considered one of the most solemn acts in Islam, one that is supposed to be undertaken free of debts and unmet family obligations.

Ellison has justified withholding the cost by citing the religious nature of his journey to Saudi Arabia, saying it had nothing to do with his duties as a congressman.

Such trips generally must be reported under congressional gift rules that call for full financial disclosure. IRS rules, moreover, bar nonprofit religious groups from furthering individuals' "private interests."

Ellison, however, reported the trip under more permissive House rules for outside business activities -- Boy Scout trips, for example -- that are unrelated to congressional duties, but which are not purely for private benefit. Those rules do not require cost accounting.

A public figure who has faced some hostility as the first Muslim member of Congress, Ellison has been reluctant to reveal details of the trip, which is estimated to have cost several thousand dollars.

School connection

The Muslim American Society's grants -- for $550,000 in 2007, and $329,000 in 2006 -- represented the proceeds of rent paid by the state of Minnesota for TiZA.

The financial connection to the school rent money is spelled out in the holding company's tax filings for 2006 and 2007: "Receives rent from government agency and donates to MAS of MN [Muslim American Society of Minnesota]."

Zaman did not respond to several inquiries seeking comment on the Mecca trip. In the ACLU's lawsuit, which alleges that the property holding company effectively transferred government charter school funds to the Muslim American Society of Minnesota, the ACLU quotes Zaman as saying that "Islam makes no distinction between public and private life."

Twin Cities public relations executive Blois Olson, who is serving as a spokesman for the school, said there is no connection between the TiZA rent money and Ellison's trip, which took place in late November and early December of 2008.

Olson said the Muslim American Society of Minnesota stopped getting the rent funds for the school in early 2007, more than a year before the trip.

At that time, the school property was transferred to the Minnesota Education Trust, Olson said, a separate nonprofit that now acts as TiZA's leaseholder. As part of that transfer, Olson said, the Muslim American Society of Minnesota Holding Corp. turned over $315,000 in rent proceeds to the trust.

The rest of the lease aid, Olson said, went to retire a private $1.3 million loan on the school property.

As a religious organization, the Muslim American Society of Minnesota is not required to make its finances public.

Olson said the Muslim group funded Ellison's trip because it wanted to improve communications "between Muslim-Americans and the broader Muslim world."

'Public trough'

The connection between the school and Ellison's trip has propelled him squarely into at debate in the Minnesota Legislature about leasing organizations like the Muslim American Society Property Holding Corp. and how they use their public rent funds.

Rep. Mindy Greiling, DFL-Roseville, who chairs the K-12 Education Finance Division Committee, said the state funds were intended to help charter schools rent space.

She said she is troubled by the large grants to the Muslim American Society of Minnesota, whether or not the money can be tied directly to Ellison's trip.

"It calls into question the sensibility of the people who lead the school," Greiling said. "And to send Keith Ellison off to Mecca just compounds it."

State officials say the arrangement illustrates long-standing concerns about the relationship between charter schools and the affiliated groups who hold their leases.

Chas Anderson, deputy commissioner for the state education department, said that state law does not regulate how lease dollars are spent by such property-holding corporations.

"While this type of relationship is legal, it is nonetheless concerning," she said of the TiZA payments.

TiZA, which also has a campus in Blaine, received an estimated $4.7 million in state aid this year, including more than $520,000 in annual lease aid. The school also got more than $873,000 in federal charter school grants last year.

Chuck Samuelson, executive director of the Minnesota ACLU, said the flow of any public funds to a sectarian group that funded a public official's trip to a religious site heightens the questions Samuelson's group has raised about the separation of church and state.

"The group that paid for it [the trip] gets a large part of its money from the public trough," Samuelson said.

The groundswell of support for private health care could not come at a more important time. The House Democratic health reform plan includes a provision in section 401 that creates a new "tax on individuals without acceptable health care coverage." That means if the government doesn't approve of the type of health insurance you have, you will be taxed as much as 2% of your yearly income. And there's no exemption for people making less than $250,000 per year! I do not believe increasing our taxes is a patriotic way to celebrate Independence Day.

Additionally, Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT) recently proposed legislation estimated by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) to cost $1.6 trillion over ten years. Despite this unprecedented budgetary outlay, more than 15 million uninsured Americans would remain unprotected under the Baucus Health Plan. Baucus now says that the cost has been pushed down to $1 trillion, but that may be wishful thinking.

In an effort to continue in the same spirit of those Founding Fathers who met at Independence Hall in Philadelphia 233 years ago, we want to be free of burdensome and illegitimate taxes, regulation and control. To help in this effort we have prepared an "Action Pac" tool kit to educate the public on health care. People you have got to understand that everything has a nature. Squirrels (especially socialist squirrels) do what they do because they are squirrels. Rocks have a nature, againg they do what they do because they are rocks. Government does what it does because it is its nature to do so. What is the nature of government, you ask? Government is stupid brute force. Period...dot, as some congressman said to emphasis his point. Government grows and controls things. Now regardless of intent with regard to RIBS/POS, government will not provide anything, but more control over your individual lives which means more governmental power over you. And with all that is happening in Washington DC with the unprecedented power grab there, this is just another nail in the coffin of Liberty here. We need to tell them NO!

Independence Day specifically recognizes the Second Continental Congress’ adoption of the Declaration of Independence. But we can extend our thoughts and reflections on this day, and honor the United States’ continuing commitment to protecting freedom and the spreading of democracy. Since declaring independence from Great Britain in 1776 (and sacrificing dearly to win it), the United States has risen as the world’s champion of liberty and freedom.

We should include in our thoughts on July 4th, 2009 not just the forefathers who resolved to sever ties with England, but also the men who fought so dutifully to defend the decision. And we should also take time to honor the sacrifice of all men and women who have worn U.S. military uniforms in the ensuing 232 years. These people have served to ensure our freedom and the freedom of people in foreign countries. Today we continue this struggle in Afghanistan and Iraq—and we know that freedom and liberty will prevail. People say “support the troops.” They could also say “support freedom.” Troops and freedom: The two are one and the same.

Service members who serve literally keep freedom alive and well.The men who signed that declaration in Philadelphia long ago would today be proud of our nation's heroes accomplishments. Proud, to see that their beliefs and convictions have been upheld and protected.

Happy Fourth of July! Please be safe and continue to support our troops!

Jesus used money as a teaching device in many of His parables. John MacArthur, pastor of Grace Community Church, Panorama City, California, said that

16 out of 38 of Christ’s parables deal with money; more is said in the New Testament about money than heaven and hell combined; five times more is said about money than prayer; and while there are 500 plus verses on both prayer and faith, there are over 2,000 verses dealing with money and possessions.[1]

One of the criteria for leadership in the church is based on how a man uses money (1 Tim. 3:3). This includes management of his own household (v. 4). As Christians we have no biblical warrant to avoid the topic of money, investments, savings, and inheritance. A case could be made that an elder who does not have money to manage is not a good candidate for the office. And what applies to church government should apply as well to civil government. One of the reasons our economy is in a mess is that most of the men and women holding office have never owned a business. Economics is a biblical word rich with meaning."

Let me be very clear: I disagree with the Minnesota Supreme Court's decision in Sen. Coleman's appeal. The court's ruling wrongly disenfranchises thousands of Minnesotans. There were unacceptable disparities in the way Minnesotans' ballots were treated based upon the counties in which they reside. Democrats seized on these disparities and hunted for ballots so they could win the election through the courts. This is completely unacceptable and we will never let it happen again.

While we respect Senator Coleman's decision to not appeal, we believe that this ruling wrongly leaves thousands of Minnesotans silenced. In 2010, we must defeat the ACORN Secretary of State Mark Ritchie to ensure our state's elections are conducted in a fair and non-partisan manner.

Senator Al Franken* will always have an asterisk next to his name. However, we must resolve to fight the Democrats as they chip away at our liberties with higher taxes, unsustainable spending, and 21st century socialism.

Finally, I would like you to join me in thanking Norm Coleman. For 30 years he worked tirelessly as a public servant for the betterment of our state and of our country. Norm's dedication and leadership for our state makes us proud to be Minnesotans.

Six years ago I wrote a book called Uncle Sam's Plantation. I wrote the book to tell my own story of what I saw living inside the welfare state and my own transformation out of it.

I said in that book that indeed there are two Americas -- a poor America on socialism and a wealthy America on capitalism.

I talked about government programs like Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Job Opportunities and Basic Skills Training (JOBS), Emergency Assistance to Needy Families with Children (EANF), Section 8 Housing, and Food Stamps.

A vast sea of perhaps well-intentioned government programs, all initially set into motion in the 1960s by Democrats, that were going to lift the nation's poor out of poverty.

A benevolent Uncle Sam welcomed mostly poor black Americans onto the government plantation. Those who accepted the invitation switched mindsets from "How do I take care of myself?" to "What do I have to do to stay on the plantation?"

Instead of solving economic problems, government welfare socialism created monstrous moral and spiritual problems -- the kind of problems that are inevitable when individuals turn responsibility for their lives over to others.

The legacy of American socialism is our blighted inner cities, dysfunctional inner city schools, and broken black families.

Through God's grace, I found my way out. It was then that I understood what freedom meant and how great this country is.

I had the privilege of working on welfare reform in 1996 which was passed by a Republican controlled Congress.

I thought we were on the road to moving socialism out of our poor black communities and replacing it with wealth-producing American capitalism.

But, incredibly, we are now going in the opposite direction.

Instead of poor America on socialism becoming more like rich American on capitalism, rich America on capitalism is becoming like poor America on socialism.

Uncle Sam has welcomed our banks onto the plantation and they have said, "Thank you, Suh."

Now, instead of thinking about what creative things need to be done to serve customers, they are thinking about what they have to tell Massah in order to get their cash.

There is some kind of irony that this is all happening under our first black president on the 200th anniversary of the birthday of Abraham Lincoln.

Worse, socialism seems to be the element of our new young president. And maybe even more troubling, our corporate executives seem happy to move onto the plantation.

In an op-Ed on the opinion page of the Washington Post, Mr. Obama is clear that the goal of his trillion dollar spending plan is much more than short term economic stimulus.

"This plan is more than a prescription for short-term spending -- it's a strategy for America 'S long-term growth and opportunity in areas such as renewable energy, healthcare, and education."

Perhaps more incredibly, Obama seems to think that government taking over an economy is a new idea. Or that massive growth in government can take place "with unprecedented transparency and accountability."

Yes, sir, we heard it from Jimmy Carter when he created the Department of Energy, the Synfuels Corporation, and the Department of Education.

Or how about the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 -- The War on Poverty -- which President Johnson said "....does not merely expand old programs or improve what is already being done.. It charts a new course. It strikes at the causes, not just the consequences of poverty."

Trillions of dollars later, black poverty is the same. But black families are not, with triple the incidence of single-parent homes and out-of-wedlock births.

It's not complicated. Americans can accept Barack Obama's invitation to move onto the plantation. Or they can choose personal responsibility and freedom.

Does anyone really need to think about what the choice should be?

              inauguration.    His invitees were stunned, shocked when he did not

              Just as they have stood tall for our country - we must always stand by

              Tiger Woods' 2-minute, 5-second tribute to the our nation's military
              was delivered January 18th at the Inaugural Celebration in Washington ,
              DC!      He had been subjected to intense pressure to attend and offer
              remarks.     Especially so by liberals who have demeaned and
              criticized him for a decade for not joining their ranks.     Yet, at
              the Lincoln Memorial, instead of paying homage to Barack Obama, Tiger
              paid tribute to our soldiers.     Not once did Tiger mention Obama,
              the inauguration or the new administration.     He had to understand
              expressing his love for America and appreciation for our military men
              and women would disappoint the national newsmedia and the liberal
              left.     But Tiger is his own man; his father taught him to be his

The positive effects of the Waxman-Markey bill on the climate are negligible, by some estimates, almost impossible to measure. On the other hand, the effects it would have on our economy and way of life are devastating.

At the same time many are losing jobs and struggling to get by on less, the Cap and Trade plan would raise energy rates across the board. That means sky-high electricity rates, and more pain at the pump. The CBO has estimated the bill could mean another 77 cents per gallon of gasoline. Higher electricity and fuel prices add to the over-all cost of everything, like food from farms where growers depend on fertilizers, tractors, and transportation. It’s one thing to conserve, but getting to work for the millions who don’t live near public transportation, and lighting and heating our homes are essentials people can’t avoid.

Independent estimates say that families could pay $3,000 more a year on energy and the entire plan would take $2 trillion from our economy in just over eight years.   Numbers like these come at a very real cost, not just in terms of your wallet but in terms of the many, many jobs this legislation gambles with. There are a number of unanswered questions today about President Obama's abrupt decision to fire the inspector general of the AmeriCorps program, Gerald Walpin. Obama sent letters to House and Senate leaders yesterday informing them that he was firing Walpin, effective 30 days from the date of the letters.

"It is vital that I have the fullest confidence in the appointees serving as Inspectors General," the president wrote. "That is no longer the case with regard to this Inspector General."

The 30 day requirement is important because last year Congress passed the Inspectors General Reform Act, which was designed to strengthen protections for IGs, who have the responsibility of investigating allegations of waste, fraud and abuse within federal agencies, against interference by political appointees or the White House. Part of the Act was a requirement that the president give Congress 30 days' notice before dismissing an IG. One of the co-sponsors of the Act was then-Sen. Barack Obama.

I was curious what your impression of the EDA meeting was.

Here are some of my thoughts:

The complaint from Scott Clark, the city's Community Development Director, is that too many homes are being sold that the city does not have a chance to inspect. I feel that if this inspection program passes it eliminates the ability of a person to sell a home 'as is' and the buyer to fix items on their own time, maybe even years later.

The City Council, EDA, several staff and the Planning and Zoning Commission were invited to go on a tour of homes on Wednesday night, May 27. Jim Kordiak (County Commissioner), Carolyn Laine (State Representative) and Eric Myers (NE Realtor's Association) went along with us. We were shown four properties. The first one is scheduled to be torn down by the county. The others are scheduled to be torn down by the city. None of these homes looked any worse, on the outside, than other homes in their block. Some of them looked better, on the outside, than other homes in the block. All of them needed the lawn cared for but since these were owned by the county and city they should have been taken care of. One of the properties that we entered is only being scheduled for demolition because it is in the Sheffield area and they want to remove this duplex and see this property replaced with a single family home. It was not scheduled for removal because of "safety and health reasons" other than the fact the city and the majority of the community want this area cleaned up. This is something I agree with them on.

The other three were in foreclosure so the city should have been able to enter those properties and been able to pull the certificate of occupancy so that these properties would have to be cleaned up before they could be inhabited. The city passed an ordinance last fall to take care of this situation. If that ordinance is not working than they should be fixing that ordinance not implementing another ordinance to hurt all home sales in this city.

At one of the homes we were warned there was a 'live' wire so we should be careful. The only 'live' wire I saw was a hole where a light switch cover should have been. For under $5 that problem could have been corrected by most homeowners. There was definitely mold in three of the homes. Mold is a correctable issue if done properly. Two of the homes were extremely small and for that reason alone, it might be better to tear them down and start over. As city council members, EDA and P &Z members, we were not qualified to determine that. Maybe Gary Peterson (mayor) would have that qualification since he had been in the construction business. Though tat is debatable since the members of this meeting were questioning any inspectors, other than the city inspector, because inspectors don't have to be licensed. I don't believe Mayor Peterson is a licensed inspector.

The reason for sending us on this tour was to show us how bad some of the homes are that are for sale in this city. I don't think anyone is disputing the fact that we live in an older community with older homes. Tami Diehm (council member) even mentioned that she is having to deal with her father's home. As he got older he was unable to care for his home as he should. What she didn't do was finish that story. She didn't say if they were now required to fix up that home before they could sell it. Which would mean traveling to an out of state location, hiring a contractor to make the repairs, and making sure they met the city's ordinances or if they could sell the home as is. Or, if they felt the repairs were too great and be forced to tear down the home before they could sell the property.

The concern from Tami Diehm was that these homes could be sold and then rented out to families with children. That shouldn't have been an issue if their foreclosure inspection ordinance was working correctly. Also, if it did become rental, than the rental inspection ordinance should cover that issue. The other concern, from several members, including Gary Peterson and Scott Clark was that last summer there was a lot of misinformation that got out about the inspection program. The city will try to correct that information by having the informational meetings. I personally believe the public, on a whole, understood the potential of this inspection program very well. Scott Clark is extremely passionate that this ordinance needs to be passed and at one point in the EDA meeting started yelling which was not helpful to anyone in that room.

The direction we take is up to all of us as American citizens.

Starting this weekend, Congress will be on its Memorial Day Recess, and Members will be back in their states trying to convince constituents how much they've done for them. This provides an excellent opportunity for you to corner lawmakers on the biggest economic issues facing our country right now, including the prospect of government-run health care. We need to ask them the tough questions, and hold them accountable for their votes, whatever their public rhetoric.

Unfortunately, liberals in Congress want to crowd out the private health insurance market and install a Canadian-style health care system that would be run about as efficiently as the post office. Instead of allowing individuals to make their own decisions about their health care, liberals want to set up a bureaucracy to ration care to those they deem most worthy. This kind of system would be a tragic mistake, and would cost Americans both in terms of money and lives.

That is why I am sending you this message with some ideas about how we can stop the socialist agenda before it threatens the very liberty that this country was founded on. Petty Officer Mike Monsoor

PO2 (EOD2) (Explosive Ordnance Disposal)
Mike Monsoor, a Navy EOD Technician, was
awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor
posthumously for jumping on a grenade in Iraq,
giving his life to save his fellow Seals.
(Notice: Mike was not a Navy SEAL, he was EOD.
He gave his life to save a group of Navy SEALS.)

During Mike Monsoor's funeral in San Diego ,
as his coffin was being moved from the hearse
to the grave site at Ft. Rosecrans National
Cemetery , SEAL's were lined up on both sides
of the pallbearers route forming a column of two's,
with the coffin moving up the center. As Mike's
coffin passed, each SEAL, having removed his
gold Trident from his uniform, slapped it down
embedding the Trident in the wooden coffin.

The slaps were audible from across the cemetery; by the time the coffin arrived grave side,
it looked as though it had a gold inlay from all the Tridents pinned to it.

This was a fitting send-off for a warrior hero..

This should be front-page news instead of the crap we see every day..

Whether they call it Residential Inspection Before Sale (RIBS), Time of Sale (TOS), Point of Sale (POS), Truth in Sale, or Truth in Housing, or invent another acronym it all means the same. Columbia Heights is looking at bringing back the Residential Inspection Before Sale program. The city will be offering several resident informational meetings and meeting with realtors to explain their reason for looking at this again.

What amazes me is that this very item was presented to the city last summer and over 150 people packed out the city council chambers bringing a very effective case as to why this was not a good idea. After listening to numerous citizens the city council reversed their decision and voted against this type of ordinance. The council did come back a few months later and passed the same type of ordinance but it affects only foreclosed or abandoned homes. The city also has a detailed inspection program for rental properties. When this second inspection ordinance was passed we were reassured by Mayor Peterson that they did get the message that the original RIBS inspection program would not be reconsidered.

It is time that residents need to stay aware of what this city council is doing. Go to the informational meetings. (At the time of this writing, no dates have been set.) There is a realtor's informational meeting to be held on Wednesday, May 20 but you will need to contact the city for the time. Start coming to city council meetings. City council meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Monday in the city council chambers. City Council Work Sessions are held the 1st Monday of the month. If you can't make it to a meeting watch the city council meeting on the local cable channel. If you can't do that, make sure that you read the minutes and agendas from city council meetings that are available on the city website or available from the city offices. Since this item was reintroduced at the EDA meeting, it is time that residents start attending those meetings as well. The next EDA meeting will be held on May 27th at 7:00 p.m. in the City Conference Room.

The city staff have accused us of being misinformed about the original ordinance. Yet many residents gave very convincing arguments against the inspection ordinance otherwise this council would not have changed it's opinion about the benefits of the original ordinance. The council had the audacity to claim that "they got the message" and yet they are now reconsidering this program.

The only council member that seems to be convinced that this is not a good idea is Mr. Nawrocki. At the May 11th city council meeting, Mr. Nawrocki brought up the fact that the city was reintroducing this ordinance and was accused by the city manager, Mr. Fehst that this was incorrect and that this was a lie. Yet, in looking at the EDA minutes from March, it is stated over and over that RIBS is going to be introduced.

It is time to make sure that this city is doing what it promised and not misrepresenting its citizens. Watch for articles in the paper, watch for the summer newsletter from the city, read the letters to the editor, watch the council meetings, stay informed. Let's hold our city accountable for its promises. Maybe they will be able to present a convincing argument. But at this point I am very skeptical and I know there are many citizens in this community that share my opinion.

Make sure you read page 7 of the summer edition of the Columbia Heights city newsletter. (If you don't have it yet, it is available at the city website. There is a paragraph stating that the city is re-examining the need for more housing inspections. This paragraph does not call it RIBS but that is what they are looking at. The city is concerned that they are not getting the chance to inspect more homes before they are sold.

I had the fortune to be with milbloggers at the White House on
Tony's last day on the job as White House Press Secretary - he joined
us when we talked with the President. He gave up an awful lot to help
the White House (and we wrote here several times about how much he was
needed). I knew some of the things he was going through and I was able
to shake his hand and tell him "Thank you for being there for us."
And, he humbly replied by introducing us to Dana Perino and saying, "She is too. She's here for you now."A class act with sharp wit, keen intellect, and a huge heart - we'll miss him greatly.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Address to the Caucus

Well I didn't get to speak at the Caucus, we had perhaps a 300% increase in participation and it was a mad house. I was also elected chairman of my precinct so I was a little busy. So it is on to the next level.

Talk to the Convention

I happened to see an old black and white movie the other night. Jimmy Stewart played a gentle slightly “touched” and lovable man who had an invisible friend, a magical six foot tall, talking rabbit named Harvey.
There was a line from the movie where Mr. Stewart's character stated and I am paraphrasing “My mother told me...some people are cleaver and some are pleasant. I choose to be pleasant, Oh, so pleasant.”
I don’t think pleasantness has ever been a part of politics in America.
For we Americans, elections and politics are a stirring and volcanic part of our lives. It is the way our mosaic, the very fabric of how our country was set up. Necessarily so, to encourage and embolden us to participate in this most grand experiment of liberty, ownership and law.
One of the points, of me talking to you tonight is to impress the fact upon you that liberty is not slavery and slavery is not liberty. That word and deed do indeed have
meaning and consequence.
Everyone has an opinion on the issues of the day and on history, but opinions turn into something else when action is applied. Opinions turn into consequence.
We can vote away our true rights for false ones. We can vote away our liberty by who we vote for, or if we don’t vote. We can vote away our laws and also our honesty, property, integrity, our love, and much more. We can vote tonight as delegates and then in the general election without clear understanding of these things and America can cease to exist a little bit more, because America is not just a place, but an ideal.
Government was created as a communal extension of personal self defense from the thug. That is it. Of course the thug always finds ways of exerting their tyranny, as thugs often do, at the point of a weapon and with deception. We, as a country had to forcibly throw off the shackles of a thug,the King of England, but for the first time in the history of the world, instituted a form of government through rational thought and argument and voted it in peacefully and honestly.
If we cast our vote for candidates who do not support or understand the basic tenants and ideals of our Constitution. Vote for candidates who mislead and manipulate, projecting the conviction of their own limitations, fears and faults on to others. If we vote for candidates who have been compromised by action and deed and thusly changed into something other than what they say they are, Republican, then we ourselves have changed into something other than Republicans.
And should go across that great divide, which was created by those others, Go to the other tent. Go over to those who do not believe, like the un-cowed we, in some things more than evils frigid lee. Because we can still tell the difference.
It is my contention that big government is in fact, evil. For it is, by its very nature, all and complete, STUPID, brute force. And unchecked force is what our Constitution is supposed to limit with regard to the National Government.
When we flawed human beings get control of that much power our flaws are magnified exponentially. Keep this in mind, there is no higher authority to go to for redress when the Government is the culprit. Except, God Almighty Himself, and maybe Smith and Wesson. So government must be strictly limited.
Rush Limbaugh stated it truly: “No CEO or corporation has ever hurt me, but big Government does every day.” Just because the government does something , it doesn't make it right or just.
All the large scale woes in this country can be traced right back to governmental intervention.
Socialism is based on the quicksand foundation of destruction and lives in a world diametrically opposed to its own stated purpose of a withering away and disappearing government. The rest of the totalist philosophies are for the same reasons, just not as sneakily, shaded under the same umbrella. They fail to do anything but enrich the lives of the thugs who are the slave masters. And that is their fatal lie. The thug never gives up his or her spoils!
Is it love or guilt?
To find kinship and acceptance
With twisted, celebrating victims
Who stopped short of healing?
Dupes, who splayed naked
To the experts of the “con”,

This country is truly great! Liberty works every time it’s tried, like abstinence, but we continually and voluntarily poke liberty in its beautifully resilient eyes . We continually take the word of its enemies as truth and vote away our livelihood. Betray our heritage and those that sacrificed their lives so that we might live free to be the most generous and prosperous peoples on the face of the earth.
On the other side of the coin, totalitarianism fails every time it is tried. Unless you consider slave-mongering,power addicted, death worship a good, constructive governmental role model.
I read somewhere that “boldness has genius in it”. It is this boldness that makes the American Ideal what it is. America is great because its people still overwhelmingly search for creation instead of blame. We search for love and acceptance under the law that protects us from the baser instincts of our morally weak members.
Members who were never taught or have forgotten, buried beneath the excesses of life, that stealing is wrong. That initiating coercion is wrong. And lying is counter productive to living a good and just life, and is the language of cheaters,and is plain wrong.
We should know by now, that the left has no problem doing any of these things. And there are many of us who have given up and wish to emulate them, joining in the wrong doing.
The Democrats used to be called the loyal opposition. Now they are at war with us and you will find little if any truth in them. Their philosophy has infiltrated, like a cancer, every institution in America, including religion, the CIA, schools, main stream media, and the Republican Party. Infiltrated for the diabolical and programmed purpose of sabotage and destruction of these said institutions.

Suffered an ironic, covert death.
By the same flesh eating rot
That killed a hundred million with it’s breath.

To the God they disavow.

we go believing evil cares about such things. But I heard them talk of hope and change in such glowing terms! As the genocide of 48.5 million innocent, helpless babies paid the price for their purposeful ignorance and cavalier attitudes.
And change for the sake of change is pointless, but that is not even what liberals want. Their change, is to force us further down the road to serfdom.
Stupid is as stupid does... coming with public policy and legislation right from the Communist Manifesto. Go look it up. I call it talking totalist. Don’t do it, don’t talk totalist, talk liberty instead.
Beware, cheating Totalitarians who masquerade as Republicans, Democrats, and Americans. They are not such, they just happen to live here. They do not share in the ideal that is America.
I implore you, do not join in the wrong doing. Be brave and have faith in the face of the leftist’s withering and constant propaganda war. Go to the alternate sources on talk radio and the internet. Search out and question and learn from those of us left. Do it before it is too late. Because freedom and ingenuity have once again found a way to give us the truth. Get involved like never before in American history. Work on every other office coming up for election.
Judges are up for election, House and Senate seats State and Federal, right down to dog catcher.
Hold our elected officials accountable, with such a volume of participation that their feet blister from being held to the fire, no matter who they are.
