The Room

Is there a room in your heart?
Is there a place for me to find?
A place we can go to be
Beyond the mysterious distance
Standing between you and me.

Has neglect of the little things
Soured the taste of love
And clipped your wings?
Will flying take a running start
To rise above the buttress around
The lonely room in your heart?

Has time layered pages of pain one on top another?
Yellowed by age and distrust
Have you, hands shaky and insecure,
Lifted the pen from the page?
And turning away in tearful disgust
Wonder if you'll ever again write
Of the magic of love
Pulling you from the past
Into the arms of hope
With the courage to try again

Is there a gated passage way
with the bolt pried open
So that I can enter
Like a candle lighting the dark
At the center of the room in your heart
